Welcome to my not-so-new and partially-revamped blog!
If my layout, writing style, and profile photo seems familiar to you, it’s because I used to be girlwithanakita. If you used to follow that crazy lady, I might not be as much fun anymore. The old blog talked about a lot of controversial matters and went deeper into topics that should not be publicly posted when you have a life outside of the blogosphere – which is something I am continuing, as I have no interest in becoming a full-time blogger. If you haven’t, I encourage you to read the about section so that you have a clearer idea of the point of my blog.
Between girlwithanakita and the current hillita, I dabbled in minimalism fashion and realized that I did not want to think about clothes that much anymore. However, I will provide weekly bits of ‘lifehacks’ to help you get to the same mind frame that I am currently in, which is something minimalism greatly helped.
I had a six-month period where my life was going every different direction and I could no longer keep up with this blog. I thought I was ‘over it’ and decided to shut it off. It wasn’t until I got everything squared away did I realize I needed it to fill a creative void. During my break, I had lots of time to think about what I can offer the blog world. When a blog is too serious, it sounds a little like your mother scolding – which is something no one needs in life. On the other side, when a blog becomes too focused on fashion, the entire thing feels like one giant ad to get you to buy things – which go against everything I believe in.
One main thing I’ve decided is that I hope to be more photography forward. I’ve never been able to practice that growing up so I’d like to continue that hobby. I also take gigs on the side for the sole reason of making me happy. I plan to post a few samples soon. With that, I hope to participate in weekly photo challenges. I think it will force me to get out of my comfort zone (i.e. rut) and continue learning. In accordance with my new zen lifestyle, I would also like to do gratitude posts. I feel like a lot of people are so goal-oriented that they have a hard time focusing on what they have (me!).
Additionally, I hope to post random ‘throwback’ style short stories (or snippets) – to practice writing and to share my past. I grew up in Indonesia and I’ve always wanted to share what it’s like to be thrown into the deep end of American culture. Not only that, I traveled a lot growing up and I enjoy reading different experiences (hopefully, you enjoy reading mine). In between all these projects that I’m always doing to myself, I hope to be a resource for you in expanding mental capacity. Somehow, I have succeeded in turning multiple daily life decisions into a quite literal no-brainer. Because of this, I have more time in my day – while doing MORE things with my life.
Lastly, I have a project in mind that I’m mulling over. I’ve become intrigued with lifestyle photography. As a longtime fan of HONY, I thoroughly enjoy how the photographer is able to humanize everyone. By showing what people go through, I am less quick to judge others. Not only that, it has piqued my interest in finding out how others live their life based on their circumstances and backgrounds. I’m mulling it over because I’m not really sure how many people would let me in to their daily life so we’ll play this by ear.
So there you have it. An introduction of what you can look forward to in my little internet corner. Not too serious, not too fluffy – just a place to keep calm and enjoy life for what it’s worth.
